Is the Thought of Believing Allah Most High Planned Everyone’s Destiny Disbelief (Kufr)?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Today, I was studying, and I got thoughts like Allah planned everyone’s destiny, and I thought of a person who does a haram job, and thoughts came in saying that this is what Allah planned. I know that Allah has a destiny for his creations written. Shaytan came to my head and whispered. I said with my tongue that Allah planned everyone’s destiny.
Then I panicked and got waswas saying what I did was having doubts about Allah and kufr or that I thought of Allah badly. I had no intention of committing kufr at all. I fear committing it.
My question is, did I commit Kufr, or was this waswas from shaytan? I would appreciate your giving me a personal answer for my case, as I noticed the links you sent on Kufr.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
The thought that you have that Allah Most High planned everyone’s destiny is not disbelief. However, it has to be adequately understood. Allah Most High knew from pre-eternality what we would choose, and He creates for us what we choose, whether to be obedient or disobedient, and this is what is unfolding.
How this happens and the entire wisdom of Allah’s acts are not known to us, nor is Allah obliged to explain anything to us. We will come to understand in the Next life.
Divine Wisdom and Good Opinion
Also, one should always remember that nothing exists except that it reflects Allah’s infinite wisdom, for He has called Himself “The All-Wise” (Al-Hakim). There is always the big picture, a larger context we cannot perceive with our short-sightedness. Allah Most High is fully aware of how things unfold in the long run, and we must place our trust in Him, fully realizing that there is wisdom in His decisions.
Refrain from delving into the question of Divine Decree, as it is something that the mind has not been created to comprehend in detail, nor will a person be asked about it. What matters to you and me is what is within our ability to know and act upon. Anything else, particularly without any guided study, will only cause misgivings.
