Question
Is it Considered Wrong to Ask for Forgiveness if a Condition Leads to Sin?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
If a condition or disability results in sin, one should not despair of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. Indeed, regardless of sin, one should never lose hope in Allah’s mercy. No doubt, as believers, we should live in hope and fear; however, we should have a good opinion of Allah that he is All-Forgiving and that He knows what is in our hearts and our struggles.
Do Not Despair
Do not despair – your desire to repent is already a sign of Allah’s love for you. Ours is a religion of hope. Pray collectively, attend circles of knowledge and remembrance, and continue to repent and make duas to Allah. See the link below.
Allah says in the Quran, “Say: Oh my slaves who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah, verily, Allah forgives all sins.” [Quran, 39:53]
Ibn Ata’ Illah (Allah have mercy on him) said, “Let no sin reach such proportions in your eyes that it cuts you off from having a good opinion of God for, indeed, whoever knows his Lord considers his sin as paltry next to His generosity.”
