In this episode, Shaykh Faraz explains the twentieth and twenty first hadiths from the Chapter on Matters That Soften the Heart from the hadith compilation, Mishkat al-Masabih, compiled by Muḥammad ibn Abdullah Khatib al-Tabrizi (d. 741 AH). The twentieth hadith calls us to make the most of five matters before five: 1. youth before old age, 2. health before illness, 3. wealth before poverty, 4. free time before busy times, 5. and life before death.
The twenty-first hadith highlights the urgency of seizing one’s time and life. It relates that: “What are any of you waiting for? The wealth that causes one to be excessive? Or poverty that will cause you to forget? Or sickness that harms? Or weakness that is of detriment? Or death that is ready before you? Or the Dajjal, and the Dajjal is the worst absent one who is awaited? Or the Final Hour, and the Final Hour is more severe and more bitter?”
